Announcement for One Master Grant | EMaDeS

One Master's Research Grant available under the Operação Centro-01-0145-FEDER-000017 - EMaDeS - Energy, Materials and Sustainable Development, co-financed by the Portugal 2020 Program (PT 2020), in the framework of the Regional Operational Program of the Center (CENTRO 2020) and the European Union through the Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER), taking place at C-MAST - Center for Mechanical and Aerospace Sciences and Technology and Department of Electromechanical Engineering, University of Beira Interior, Covilhã.

Scientific Area: Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering.

Required education level and research experience: The candidates should have a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aeronautic Engineering or similar expertise related with the area of the project. Special relevance will be given to the candidates with experience in multiphase ceramics (design, manufacture, and microstructure, physical and mechanical characterization) and relevant scientific merit demonstrated by scientific publication.

Objectives/summary: The project intends to development and characterization of heterogeneous ceramic materials (ceramic composites of multiphase structure for applications as advanced materials under severe conditions of service), according to the following planning, the tasks of the work plan of this project are:
1 - Analysis of the state of the art of multiphase ceramic materials.
2 - Thermodynamic design of the compositions.
3 – Optimization of the Particle size distribution of the ceramic compositions.
4 - Validation of ceramic matrix compositions.
5 - Development of applications and optimization of the ceramic matrix.
6 - Development of applications and optimization of new multifunctional materials based on the ceramic matrix.
The goal of the work plan associated with this grant is obtain the best microstructure design in order to improve the mechanical performance of the innovative heterogeneous ceramic.

Workplace and Scientific supervision: The workplace will be at C-MAST‐Centre for Mechanical and Aerospace Sciences and Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Department, University of Beira Interior, and supervised by Prof. Dr. Abílio Manuel Pereira da Silva.

Duration: 6 months renewable by similar periods, with the favorable advice of the supervisor, until the end of the project (December 2020).
