Sílvia Socorro is Full Professor of Biomedicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences of University of Beira Interior (UBI) and the Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Development. Silvia Socorro has a PhD in Biological Sciences (2001) and obtained the Habilitation degree in Biomedicine in 2013. She taught several curricular units of B.Sc, M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes, namely the Ph.D. programme in Biomedicine, being responsible for the Scientific Writing modules. Research interests cover the action of sex steroid hormones, endocrine disruptors and other metabolic regulators in the control of cell survival, energy metabolism and calcium homeostasis in male reproduction and prostate cancer. Sílvia Socorro has supervised 3 post-doctoral projects and 7 PhD theses and co-authored more than 80 articles (Scopus h-index 28) in specialized journals in the fields of cell and molecular biology, reproduction and cancer. She is a member of the Editorial Board of international indexed journals and a member of national and international scientific organizations, namely, the ASPIC (Portuguese Association for Cancer Research) and the EACR (European Association for Cancer Research).
