Profile of the programme In light of the legal framework in Portugal, the roads belonging to the national road network must ensure, depending on their type, certain traffic conditions. These traffic conditions, reflected in the level of service, are especially critical at road intersections. Priority intersections are the cheapest and easiest solutions to implement, especially in urban areas where traffic speeds tend to be lower. This facility, however, can significantly influence not only the capacity of secondary roads, but eventually the main roads and accident rate.
The presented training action arises from the need to train senior technical staff in the application of the latest developments of the methodology presented in the Transportion Research Board (TRB) Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) to the Portuguese road scenario, whose use is still not very expressive. or non-existent.
Key learning outcomes At the end of the course, the student should be able to carry out studies of capacity oan level of service of Two-Way-Stop-Controlled Intersections.
