Hygiene and food safety

All SASUBI food units have food safety system procedures and are audited periodically.

FOOD

Who has access to the UBI canteens?

• Students from UBI with updated student card;
• Students from other public higher education institutions, with permission of SASUBI;
• UBI and SASUBI teachers and/or employees;
• Other users with due permission of SASUBI.

UBI canteen users must present their university identification card.

A complete meal consists of soup, dish, salad, bread, fruit or dessert and water or juice.

Users who, for reasons of illness or other reasons, need an alternative dish, should inform the person in charge of the sector, in order to provide an adequate dish, according to their needs.

The menus are prepared based on the target population nutritional needs.

Social Action Services of the University of Beira Interior provide 4 canteens, 8 bars and 2 buffets.

• Santo António Canteen – 12:00pm to 2:00pm
• Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Canteen – 12:00pm to 2:30pm
• Faculty of Engineering Canteen -12:00pm to 2:00pm

• Malufa Buffet - 12:00 to 2:00pm

Dinner

• Santo António Canteen – 6:30pm to 8:00pm

• Santo António Bar – 08:30am to 5:30pm
• Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Bar (outsourced)– 08:30am to 10:00pm (Saturdays from 09:00 am to 3:00pm – to be checked)
• Faculty of Engineering Bar – 08:30am to 5:30pm
• Faculty of Health Sciences Bar – 08:30am to 5:30pm
• UBI Bar - 08:30am to 5:30pm
• Malufa Bar - 12:00pm to 9:00pm
• 6th Phase Bar (outsourced)– 08:00am to 6:00pm
• The Library Bar (outsourced)– 08:30am to 11:00pm (Weekends with menus and/or meals: 9:00am to 9:00pm)

Periods of Closure

Food units and bars close in periods of school holidays or in situations of force majeure (warnings are posted in their own units).

The social meal is served in all food units with a cooking area:

Catering and reservations

The SASUBI provide catering services for events promoted by the UBI organic units, or by other entities at the premises of UBI.

Depending on the requests, the following services are provided: lunch/dinner, coffee break, cocktail, port of honour, snack, breakfast, cocktail reception. You can consult these services proposals in Catering Services.

The services are provided in the regimes buffet/ self-service/ cocktail-style service/ table service.

The SASUBI are responsible for the full provision of all food service. The event promoter may request appropriate changes in the composition of the menu, as long as they are previously reported at SASUBI.

Menus

Canteens menus via SMS

The daily menus of the UBI canteens are also available on your mobile phone, for free. To this end you need to have an email account on Gmail, which should enable the receiving notifications via SMS in Google Calendar:

• Open Google Calendar;
• Click on “settings” in the top upper right corner;
• Click on “Phone configuration” tab and enter your mobile phone number. You will receive an SMS and you should enter the code you receive.

Now that notifications are configured, you can add the menus you want. Just press the button "Google Calendar" and then press "Yes, add this calendar".

To configure the notifications "Google Calendar":

• Open “Google Calendar”;
• Click on “settings” in the top upper right corner;
• Select the tab "Calendars";
• Click "Notifications and reminders";
• Add a reminder;
• Choose “SMS” (or “ical”) and set the time you want to receive the SMS;
• Press “Save”.
