Profile of the programme This program awards the degree of PhD in Physics. This degree certifies an extensive global scientific knowledge of Physics, and a deep proficiency in a specific area, as well as the ability to carry out relevant research in Physics.
Accordingly it aims to:
Provide the highest quality of training in Physics, in a stimulating scientific atmosphere, with participation in relevant research projects.
Prepare for a career in Physics in the framework of Higher Education, Research Institutions, or corporate work.
Key learning outcomes After completing of the degree program the students should have:
Systematic and deep understanding in an area of Physics.
Acquired, as a result of the work involved in research and writing the thesis, the skills, aptitudes and practices appropriate to research and development of knowledge in Physics.
The capacity to conceive, project, adapt and carry out research work in Physics, in accordance with the demands of quality standards and academic integrity.
The ability to critically analyze and synthesize new and complex ideas.
The capacity to communicate with peers, the academic community in general, and society within the field of expertise.
The ability to promote in academic and/or professional contexts technological social and cultural development in a knowledge based society.
Occupational profiles of graduates This degree awards professional qualification for a wide range of activities, including teaching in Higher Education, theoretical, experimental and technological research in Physics, Engineering and Technology.
In view of the high level of scientific and technical expertise conferred, many highly specialized fields of professional activity such as medical instrumentation, high technology industry and also financial and insurance activities are active fields of employment.
Learning facilities Available learning support facilities include the main campus library with online access to databases including B-on and Web of Science, several computer rooms and wi-fi throughout the University with permanent internet access, and an e-learning platform with support for all education activities.
