Profile of the programme
This PhD program allows the students that finish an MSc in Computer Science or similar, to proceed with their studies towards a PhD degree. The program has a PhD course with 60 ECTS credit units in the first year, and the research towards a PhD thesis in the following two years.
Among the many capabilities that a student acquires throughout the program, we find the ability to systematically comprehend this scientific domain; the competence, ability and research methods associated with the domain; the capacity to imagine, project, adapt and build innovative research within the standards of academic quality and integrity; and finally, the know-how that enables an integration into the marketplace with a position adequate to this degree. |
Key learning outcomes
At the end of this course, the student should be able to develop scientific research in the area in an autonomous way by creating new knowledge. The student should be able to transmit in an adequate way, either through scientific publishing, oral talks or other, the knowledge produced by him or by others, in the area. The student should also be able to supervise research in this area. |
Occupational profiles of graduates
University Career (some of our students have become university teachers). Research Career (a PhD from our course can became a researcher in public or private research institutions). Research and development in private institutions (some of our students become active in R&D departments of private companies). |
Learning facilities
The support structures to the Doctorate in Computer Science Engineering are several. Besides the infrastructures to support lessons during the first doctorate year (classrooms, teaching laboratories, secretariat, library, etc.), students count on several laboratories where they will develop research assignments that conduct to the writing of the dissertation. When choosing the theme of the dissertation, the student will be guided to one of the following laboratories: -HULTIG Lab (Centre for Human Language Technology and Bioinformatics) -IT (Telecommunications Institute) -LISTI Lab (Information Systems and Technologies) -Media Lab (Graphic and Multimedia Computing) -NetGNA Lab (Next Generation Networks and Applications) -NMCG Lab (Network and Multimedia Computing) -RELEASE Lab (Reliable and Secure Computation) -SOCIA Lab (Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis) -We-MOVE Lab (Technologies and Telecommunications) |
