Learning outcomes To give to the students the necessary skills related to modeling, analysis and design methods that focus on 4D navigation trajectory optimization and control. In that scope, the lectures will deal with methods and examples that are applicable to commercial aircraft, UAVs, missiles and spacecraft.

Syllabus Module I (Aerial Navigation and Flight Trajectories) - Problematics of 4D trajectory optimization and control. Principles of aerial navigation. Trajectory estimation and reconstruction.

Module II (Flight Trajectory Optimization) - Static (parametric) optimization methods and algorithms. Dynamic optimization methods and algorithms (direct methods and indirect methods). 4D trajectory optimization (atmospheric flight and space flight).

Module III (Trajectory Control) - Optimal trajectory control using the LQR and H-infinity methods. Trajectory controller design (for commercial aircraft, UAVs, missiles and spacecraft).

The methodologies applied (assessment included) comply with the Rectoral Order (R) 28/2006 of 14 September, and the successive amendments introduced by Orders 32-A / 2006 of 30 October, 33/2008 of 1 September, and 31 / R / 2009 of August 4th.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

A. LEARNING PHASE
Test: 50%;
Miniproject: 50%;

B. Exam: Written exam (100%).
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
