Learning outcomes At the end of the UC students will be able to describe the organs and structures associated with the
immune, cardio respiratory, digestive, nefrourinário, reproductive, endocrine and metabolic systems,
identify their embryological origins and recognize the anatomical and functional relationships between
them; understand the physiology and functional aspects relate to the anatomical and histological
characteristics; perform procedures for assessing physiological functions; demonstrate ability to work
in groups; synthesize information and communicate with colleagues as appropriate; providing
counselling on disease prevention measures associated with these systems; demonstrate attitudes
appropriate to the exercise of the medical profession.


Syllabus Blood and the Immune System: Haematopoiesis, blood and Haemostasis; lymphoid organs and
recirculation; Inate and Adaptative ( Humoral and Cell-mediated) Immunity; blood groups.Cardio-
respiratory system: embriology, anatomy, histology and physiology of the respiratory and
cardiovascular systemsDigestive System: embriology, anatomy, histology and physiology of the
gastrointestinal tract and annex glands, intestinal motility, digestion and absorption of nutrients.
Nephro-urinary and reproductive systems: embriology, anatomy, histology and physiology of the
kidney, urinary tract and reproductive organs, basic renal mechanisms, physiology of reproduction,
pregnancy, birth delivery and lactation. Endocrinology and metabolism: morpho-functional
organization, metabolic index, body mass index, metabolic pathways and hormonal regulation,
vitamins and minerals, hormonal control of growth.
