Learning outcomes	It is intended that during the semester the students deepen a set of historical-artistic notions and concepts associated to the various artistic currents from the eighteenth century until the present (the period called Contemporary Age), and develop the necessary skills to relate the influence of art and design in the various cultural expressions of contemporary times.
Syllabus	A world in transformation • Homo ex machina: in the era of the Industrial Revolution. • Antagonistic feelings: Neoclassicism and Romanticism. • The "heroic" era of contemporary history of art. Transitions: from impression to expression • Purism in art: from Fauvism to Cubism • The futuristic movement • Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism • Body Art and Performance The concept of useful art and design • New Art and Design • Revolution and ideal: Constructivism and Suprematism • The Bauhaus and the Synthesis of the Arts Art in time of war • The rise of New York and new audiences • Reproduction of art and applied arts • Cinetism, Action Painting and art in movement Art and society • Op Art and the concept of provocation • Pop Art and the consumer society • Video Art and the historical-social context The death of the object and of the author • Surrealism and Conceptual Art • Installation, interactivity and experience • Land Art, Street Art, Public art Cyberculture and Digital Art • New Media Art • Internet Art The art, the image and the cultural paradigm of the dawn of the 21st century
