Learning outcomes This Curricular Unit aims to provide the doctoral student with a set of transversal methodological skills, for the planning, execution, interpretation and presentation of the results of a research work in the area of ??Health Sciences (Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences).
At the end of this course unit, the student shall be able to:
- select the most appropriate method of quantitative or qualitative research for a given research project.
- apply basic epidemiologic principles and concepts in the field of health sciences.
- understand the ethical and legislative framework of biomedical research.
- search and organize bibliographic references using the appropriate software tools.
- prepare a grant application for a research project in health sciences.
- identify basic techniques and procedures for the elaboration of a scientific manuscript.
Syllabus General principles of basic and translational research.
Quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Epidemiological investigation methods.
Clinical trials.
Planning a research project.
Leadership and management in Health Research.
Entrepreneurship, innovation and intellectual property.
General principles of ethics in research.
Ethics in animal research.
Ethics in clinical research.
Preparation of applications for research project funding programs.
Publication of research papers.
Bibliographic research and bibliographic reference management programs.
Main Bibliography Reading material will be distributed at each teaching session.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Teaching-Learning Classification (CEA)
CEA = Test × 0.8 + Job 1 × 0.1 + Job 2 × 0.1

Final Exam Classification (CEF)
CEF = Exam × 0.8 + Work 1 × 0.1 + Work 2 × 0.1.

Work 1 = bibliographic research work.
Work 2 = written analysis/discussion work on aspects of ethics in human or animal research.

To pass it is required a minimum score of 10 (9.500) on a scale of 0 to 20.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
