Learning outcomes The main objective of this CU is for the doctoral student to complete an original thesis in accordance with the research project previously outlined by the student and under the supervision of a supervisor or supervision team.
Syllabus Advanced research work in at least one of the four fields of political science covered by this doctoral programme, political philosophy, governance, comparative politics, and political communication, was undertaken after the approval of the research project in examinations. The actual specific content will thus reflect the nature of the doctoral students’ research, carried out under the scientific supervision of one or more supervisors.

Within this unit, monthly seminars will be carried out throughout the academic year. In each seminar, one-two students will present a part of their thesis research, followed by comments and discussion with the faculty and his fellow students, as well as of members of the R&D units that have similar research interests. Equally, the doctoral students will be integrated, whenever possible, in national or international research projects of the R&D units that support this doctoral programme – GOVCOPP, IFP, LabCom and Praxis.

Main Bibliography The main bibliography is defined in the theoretical framework of each doctoral thesis.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria This curricular unit has less of a teaching methodology than a methodology for monitoring the doctoral students' research work. The respective supervisor or supervision team establishes this monitoring by prior scheduling for each doctoral student.
The assessment is based on a jury's appreciation and public discussion of the doctoral thesis, as stipulated in national legislation and the regulations for doctoral programmes.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
