Learning outcomes Students must acquire concepts and understand the importance of production, transportation, conversion, storage and energy consumption for the economy, environment and sustainability; To know the primary energy sources and their usable forms of transformation, the current and prospective of emerging energy technologies and quantify their economic, environmental and social impacts at local, national and global levels; Explore and evaluate the different energy options, including current and emerging technologies of alternative energy and fossil fuels, as well as energy efficiency options, both in the Portuguese context and in the global context; Acquire skills in the use of methodologies and tools that foster the choice of sustainable options in the energy sector; Stimulate the critical spirit regarding the sustainability of future energy systems.

ENERGY, ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENT - Environmental Impacts of Energy Systems; - Individual and Collective Commitments; - Technological Mechanisms; - Social responsability; - Eco-efficiency and Energy Efficiency: Case Studies. FOSSIL FUELS: COAL, PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS - Occurrence; - Transport and Storage; - Conversion and Use; - Environmental impacts; - Technology, Economy and Sustainability; - Quantification of Base Resources.
