Learning outcomes Learning objectives (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by students) The discipline of European Union Law is part of the compulsory curricular plan of the degree course in Political Science and International Relations and aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge for a global understanding of reality of the European Union. The discipline thus focuses on the fundamental principles of Union law, exploring the fundamental concepts associated with European legal construction and drawing attention to the constitutional dimension that underlies the integration process. Thus, the objectives are to learn the essential concepts, principles, sources and legal norms related to organization, normative structures, legal pluralism and the fundamental rights regime. Main skills to be acquired: General field of European Union law in its evolutionary character; Understand and interpret existing treaties; Understand the organization of the European institutions and their legislative process; Understand the system of normative acts of the European Union and its relationship with national law; Understand the regime for the protection of fundamental rights in the European Union; Know the legal framework and the means of intervention and recourse to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Syllabus 1 - History of European integration. From the European Economic Community to the European Union. 1 (b) - Principles of the European Union. European constitutional law. 2- Citizenship of the European Union 3- Fundamental rights in the European Union. The European Charter of Fundamental Rights. 4 - The tasks of the European Union. Implicit assignments. 5 - Organs and institutions of the European Union, in particular the European Parliament, the European Council, the Council, the European Commission and the Court of Justice of the European Union. 6 - Sources of European Union law. Origin and secondary law. Legislative acts of the Union. Regulations, directives and decisions. The European legislative process. National participation in the formation of the Union's legislative act. 7 - Relationship between Union law and national law. The concepts of primacy of Union law, direct applicability, direct effect, consistent interpretation and harmonization. 8 - The application of Union law by the Member States. 9 - Judicial review of the application of European Union law and the relevance of the case law of the Union. Litigation of the European Union, especially the questions referred for a preliminary ruling as a means of uniform interpretation of Union law. 10 - The right to leave the Union. - The European Parliament and Human Rights
