Learning outcomes - Problematize the reality underlying the expression "African Lusophone Culture" having the concepts of acculturation, resistance, colonization, negritude, multilingualism and multiculturalism as a starting point;
- Understand the different times and ways of the Portuguese acculturation in the African countries that adopted the Portuguese language as their official language (PALOP);
- Identify the resemblances and idiosyncrasies of the different African Lusophone cultures;
- Characterize the most important manifestations of the African Lusophone cultures;
- Identify trends of the African Lusophone cultures of contemporary times, specially through litterary texts;
- Develop a monograph about a theme in this area;
- Participate actively in seminars with communications or publish papers in this area;
- Understand the potentialities and limitations of African Lusophone world.
Syllabus 1. Africanity and Lusophony: intersection and exclusion.
2. Portugal's role in creating maps and forced acculturations.
3. Negritude as a resistance device vis-à-vis the Portuguese (cultural) colonization. The poetry of Noémia de Sousa, Agostinho Neto and Francisco José Tenreiro.
4. Similarities and idiosyncrasies among African cultures of Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Guinea.
5. Panoramique identification of the main trends and figures in the fields of Lusophone literature, music, theater, fine arts and cinema in the PALOP on contemporary times.
6. Analysys of the main trends of Lusophone PALOP contemporary literatures by selected authors and texts. Problematization of the Canon PALOP litteratures.
