Learning outcomes Analyse Portuguese literature from medieval period.
By the end of the Semester, the student must be able to:
- recognize the main historical and cultural characteristics of the Middle Ages;
- identify the most important literary modes of medieval Portuguese literature;
- read, analyze and comment on different Portuguese medieval texts.
Syllabus 1. The Portuguese literature during the Middle Ages.
2. The Galician-Portuguese lyric.
2.1. "Cantigas de amigo", "de amor" and "escárnio e maldizer".
2.2. "Cantigas de Santa Maria".
3. The Portuguese medieval historiography: "Livros de Linhagens".
4. The medieval chronicles: the work of Fernão Lopes.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The methodologies used in the classroom are subject to exposure and content application classes, using New Technologies, whenever appropriate; by discussion and reflection on texts; and individual and group work.
The students will be evaluated periodically in two moments of the semester, through the accomplishment of two written tests, and of continuous form by their participation during the classes.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
