Entry requirements There are not. It is recommended, however, to have a level of competence equivalent to B1.2 of the CEF in Spanish language / C1 in Portuguese language.

Learning outcomes Overall aims:
To enhance the language proficiency and consolidate (pluridisciplinary) skills, already acquired, on the one hand; to have a look at the intricacies of the multifaceted phenomenon of translation, on the other.
Specific learning outcomes:
-To interpret properly the source text (starting the translation process)
-To identify problems of translation and find strategies, methods and procedures to solve them
-To make use of some auxiliary instruments and resources, online or on paper
-To produce correct, adequate and effective texts, namely in translation into one’s own language
-To recognize, correct and prevent mistranslations, especially those related to linguistic closeness
-To know or be acquainted with some basic concepts in translation studies
Syllabus -Elementary notions: Basic concepts and terminology, methods and techniques, the vast field of translations studies.
-Translator/reviewer auxiliary resources and supports: dictionaries, glossaries, databases, concordances, style guides, etc.
-Translation from/into related and close languages
-Translating: the process of translation. From reading and understanding the source text to the revision of the target text
-The role of translations (and translators) both within importer and exporter cultural systems, from a diachronic and synchronic point of view
-The translator, linguistic and cultural mediator. Preconceptions and employment prospects
