Learning outcomes |
At the end of the course unit the student should be able to: - Recognize the importance of microbiology in the context of practical life, the healthy environment - Understand the importance and functions of proteins, vitamins and minerals. - State the basic structural characteristics of various microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses) and establish their relationship with humans as etiological agents of infection. - Describe mechanisms of action of some antibiotics and explain microbial resistance - Understand the immune system and its way of acting. The defences of our body. - Correctly perform the aseptic technique for handling microorganisms. - Use typical laboratory methodologies for the study of microbiology: morphological characterization, metabolic study and susceptibility to antimicrobials.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The methodology used in this course is based on the definition of the objectives to be achieved, attitudes and skills to be developed, and the skills to be acquired. Student-centred learning is expository in class, as well as active training methodologies, with a practical component in the laboratory context. Based on the organized and available learning materials, time zones of intra-group self-learning are delimited with reporting and sharing of this acquisition of skills by students expositively in the classroom context. The evaluation will be made through a written test, as well as through research work, synthesis and oral presentation according to the syllabus taught in the course.
