Learning outcomes |
This Course Unit intends to contribute to the design and development of the Thesis Project, providing knowledge about the main research methodologies in Education and enabling the doctoral students to critically analyze, plan and implement relevant and original scientific research. At the end of this Course Unit, the student should be able: - to construct, develop and present a duly grounded research project on Education; - to critically analyze scientific research in education, from a conceptual and methodological point of view; - to consider the applicability of quantitative and qualitative research methods in the construction of scientific knowledge in Education; - to identify essential ethical procedures in the field of educational research.

1. Education as an object of research, Research paradigms, Quantitative, qualitative and mixed approaches 2. Types of studies (e.g. action research, case studies, ethnography, design research, biographical studies / life histories, quasi-experimental and experimental studies,...) 3. Research problems, questions and hypotheses 4. Sampling methods and case selection 5. Techniques for data collection (e.g. observation, questionnaire, interview, documentary analysis, focus group, ...) 6. Ethics in research in education 7. Quantitative data analysis 8.
