Learning outcomes From the theoretical and conceptual discussion (e/i/migration, refugees, ethnic minorities, ethnicity), the curricular unit aims to analyze, sociologically, the issue of multiculturalism, with emphasis on the issue of Rights Human Resources, in different contemporary national contexts, with emphasis on the Portuguese reality.
Syllabus I. The concepts of Human Rights and Multiculturalism
II. Modernity, multiculturalism, and interculturality: theoretical issues.
III. International migration (displaced people and refugees): sociological characterization
IV. The process of transnational migration and the transformation of the ethnic and religious national compositions.
V. Ethnic and religious minorities and intercultural relations in the context of global world
VI. Human Rights in the context of contemporary societies, Portugal in particular.
