Learning outcomes The course aims to provide to students the necessary skills for the use of Geographic Information Systems as a tool to support the Management of Transport Infrastructure, in its different fields (infrastructure and operation). The following competencies are transmitted to students:
(a) Understanding and identification of particular aspects of the management of transport infrastructure, especially for the case of road networks.
(b) Ability to build a GIS model to support the management of a transport infrastructure (global organization of the model, database structure, treatment, organization and exploration of data).

Syllabus 1. Transport Infrastructures. Concepts.
2. Potentialities of the application of GIS on Transport Infrastructures management.
3. GIS Model to support the management of road networks.
4. Database definition: The Case of Roads.
5. Presentation of Case Studies.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria This semester course takes place during the 2nd semester and consists of 30 hours of contact with the teacher, 128 hours of student autonomous work and 10 hours for evaluation (total: 168 hours). The course is credited with 6 ECTS. The course is structured with TE, TP and OT classes (exposition of the course subjects, presentation of small practical examples, application of theoretical concepts to solve practical problems and development of a GIS model to support the management of a transport infrastructure).
Evaluation is performed in two phases:
- Continuous evaluation: class attendance and participation (5%) + individual practical work (95%)
- Final exam for admitted students.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
