Learning outcomes It is intended that the student deepen the theoretical and methodological knowledge in the analysis of the processes of civic, ethnic and cultural social inclusion, based on a relation between the concepts of citizenship and multiculturality.
Learning outcomes:
1) evaluate the contemporary contexts of social and political participation, their repercussion in the logics of collective action and its relation with ethnic and cultural identity;
2) understand the specificities of multiculturalism in national, regional and local contexts and a relationship established with active citizenship, participation and socio-cultural participation;
3) identity construction and its impact on the logics of collective action.
At the end of the unit the student should be able to interpret and critically discuss the theories of citizenship, participatory civics and the theoretical and practical issues of multiculturalism.participation and on theoretical and practice issues of multiculturalism.
Syllabus 1. Theories of Citizenship.
2. Citizenship and the logic of collective action in the contemporary societies.
3. The different senses and different features of "participation".
4. The concept and theories of multiculturalism.
5. Ethnicity, identities, nationalism, and civic participation.
6. Ethnic minorities in national contexts, processes of social and political inclusion/exclusion.
