Lasers in Biomedicine

Code 13454
Year 3
Semester S2
ECTS Credits 6
Workload PL(30H)/T(30H)
Scientific area Biomedical Sciences
Entry requirements Not required.
Learning outcomes This course aims to disseminate the applications of lasers in medicine, as well as the basic concepts of physical optics that allow for their understanding. By the end of this course, the student should be able to identify and characterize various types of laser systems (and associated optical systems) for therapeutic applications. The student should be able to understand the biophysical mechanisms of laser light interaction with biological tissues. The student will become familiar with some experimental techniques for studying laser-tissue interactions. It is also intended that the student will understand the current landscape of laser applications in medicine within a national context.
