Learning outcomes |
1. Present a comprehensive and broad understanding of the notion of "filmmaker" 2. Recognize the pertinence of the filmmaker's discourse and identify concepts and expressions of those discourses as well as specificities of the respective creative process in order to operationalize the "Filmmakers on film" approach. 3. Check the articulation of the thought and poetics of the filmmakers with film theory.

Syllabus |
1. The "filmmakers on film" approach. Extended notion of "filmmaker". Issues: scope, potential and limits of the approach in the scope of current film theory. 1.1 Similarities and differences between Jacques Aumont's "Filmmakers' theories" and the "Filmmakers on film" Approach. 1.2 Similarities and differences between the Auteur Theory and the "Filmmakers on film" Approach. 2. Viewing and discussion of films nominated for the EUFA-European University Film Award. 3. Elaboration of an essay in which the "filmmakers on film" approach is operationalized.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The course is taught through discussion of texts previously read by the students; watching films nominated for the EUFA and monitoring sessions of the essay. The assessment consists of two elements: 1) operationalizing the “filmmaker theory”; 2) participation in class and in monitoring sessions.
