Learning outcomes |
To provide students with knowledge about the principles, concepts and theories of Medical Ethics and Bioethics relevant to the practice of Medicine. At the end of the curricular unit, the student should be able to: • Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical dimension involved in treating patients • Identify the ethical principles associated with the exercise of the medical profession and the Medical Act • Specify his/her rights and duties as a doctor • Distinguish the duty to respect the principles of Autonomy, Benevolence, and Non-maleficence • Define the value of medical confidentiality and secrecy duties • Recognize the ethical principles and duties related to the peculiar stages of the beginning and end of life • Discern the appropriate behaviors when dealing with the patient, their families, and health professionals • Actively participate in debates concerning ethical challenges in medicine

The historical process of the development of Ethical Regulation Different systems of the foundation of Medical Ethics Medical Ethics and Human Rights Decision-making methodology - Deliberative Method Philosophical Anthropology of Caring Ethical and Legal Aspects in Clinical Care Informed consent (Advanced will directives) Confidentiality and professional secrecy Ethical-legal rights and duties of patients and professionals Beginning of life: -Genetics - Obstetrics - Pediatrics -Moral considerations about the human embryo -parental power -Confidentiality and consent in mature minors -Decision-making in the context of Emergency, Intensive Unit and end-of-life care in Pediatrics End of Life: -Attention to chronicity, vulnerability, and cognitive deterioration - Advanced care planning -Adequacy of intervention measures at the end of life -Communication in the end-of-life context
