Learning outcomes The main objective of the course is to familiarize students with the most frequent statistical methods in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, enabling them to apply these methods to a real database through SPSS statistical software.
At the conclusion of the Course Unit the students should be able to make the connection between the acquired statistical concepts and the needs that will be found in his professional career, namely in the preparation of his master's thesis.
They must have acquired the following learning outcomes:
• create a database in SPSS;
• to be able to find the appropriate sample size;
• select the suitable statistical method to the study objective;
• use appropriate statistical methods for data processing;
• perform statistical analysis of data using SPSS;
• interpret and analyze the obtained results.
Syllabus 1 - Introduction to SPSS
• Presentation of the SPSS interface;
• Descriptive analysis (frequencies tables and graphs, descriptive statistics).
2 - Brief introduction to sampling theory
• Sampling techniques;
• Calculation of the sample size.
3 - Inference for one and two samples
• Parametric tests of hypotheses;
• Non-parametric tests of hypotheses.
4 - Inference for more than two samples
• Parametric tests of hypotheses;
• Non-parametric tests of hypotheses.
5 - Linear regression analysis
• Correlation;
• Simple linear regression;
• Multiple linear regression;
• Residue analysis.
6 - Logistic regression
• Odds Ratio;
• The logistic regression model;
• Variable Selection Methods;
• Significance and quality of the logistic regression model (Hosmer-Lemeshow test, Wald test, ROC curve, residue analysis).
