Learning outcomes The first year, in particular the Project I discipline, is the student's first approach to the universe of architecture, fundamental in the academic formation of the future architect and in the construction of his personal heritage, not only through the proposed academic works, but also the different ones. topics addressed throughout the year.
This course aims to introduce the general problems of architecture, the construction of individual work methodologies, the understanding of the concept as an essential basis of the project and the practices of representation of that concept. Understanding of architecture will be fostered based on experimentation. If, on the one hand, it is considered essential to provide tools for the enrichment of the students' architectural culture, the rejection of preconceived ideas aiming at the development of their own methodologies and individual architectures will be encouraged.
Syllabus The Curriculum Unit Project I/I placed in the 1st semester of the 1st year of the Architecture course - which is understood as introductory - has as its main objectives: the initiation of the methodology of the Architecture project; the generic approach to the problems of Architecture; the domain of the basic instruments of formulation of Architecture project. It is fundamental that the student understands space through its organization, composition and meaning, using a set of exercises that presuppose his own experience, from the confrontation with the history of architecture and cities and the cultural context. In this sense, the approach to the programme should contemplate two moments: - the first, which is related to the organisation of space unrelated to circumstances of real context; - the second, which goes through the design of an architectural object inserted in that context.
