Syllabus 1. Music and other sounds:
1.1. The construction/deconstruction of the concept of music;
1.3. Music, musical practice, communication and expression;
1.4. Music as an autonomous art versus an integrated element.

2. Contextualized music listening.
2.1. The sound of the music: pitch, duration, intensity, timbre, texture and location;
2.2. Musical parameters: melody/harmony, meter, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, texture;
2.3. Auditory elements characterizing music throughout Western history (post-Baroque);

3. Introduction to musicological and cultural studies:
3.1. The different areas of musicology;
3.2. Music, society and culture;
3.3. Music and media;
3.4. Musical perception versus acculturation.

4. Research themes in music, art and society.
4.1. Music and culture;
4.2. Music and sociology;
4.3. Music and Anthropology;
4.4. Music and psychology;
4.5. Music and aesthetics.
