Learning outcomes The aim of the course is to provide students with a broad and integrative perspective of virtualization and datacenter technologies. At the end of the course, students should be able to systematize an approach to
the various virtualization and datacenter technologies that provide applications and services with high availability, greater flexibility, better resource utilization, greater scalability and adaptability, and reduced
costs. Students should be able to assess the choices, solutions and commitments involved in the development, deployment, use and management of virtualized infrastructures and datacenters.
Syllabus General overview of the adoption of virtualization and cloud computing technologies. Concepts and
implementation levels of virtualization. Hardware-level virtualization structures, tools, and mechanisms.
Resource virtualization. Virtualization at the operating system level. Virtualization of clusters and resource
management. Virtualization for datacenter automation. Design of datacenters. Architectural design of
clouds. Networks in cloud environments. Inter-cloud resource management. Cloud security and trust
