Learning outcomes . Define the origins and concept of Epistemology;
. Characterize some of the most influential contemporary epistemological theories;
. Promote contact with the main authors of Epistemology;
. Foster and stimulate students' interest in the major issues of Epistemology, in their intersection with burning issues in Communication Sciences;
. Stimulate interest in contemporary epistemological research;
. Promote the analysis and understanding of fundamental texts;
. Identify specific epistemological problems in the field of Communication.

1. Introduction
. Origins of Epistemology: the evolution of a discipline, the maturation of the concept.
2) First foray into contemporary epistemological theories, or Epistemology “as it is done”
. Karl Popper and falsificationism. The rehabilitation of error on the horizon of a self-understanding of science as a “process”.

1. The positivist perspective on scientific knowledge. The idea of progress and Comte's law of the three states.
2. The nature of physical theory. The relation of physical theory to metaphysics. DUHEM, Pierre.

4. The notion of "epistemological region". The notions of "objectivity", "problematic", "scientific method", "application".
5. The notion of "epistemological obstacles".

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria 1) Written attendance test on January 5, 2024 (50%);
2) Short essay, with a minimum of 4 pages (50%). Submission deadline: December 17, 2023;
3) A set of factors will also be taken into consideration, such as active participation in the proposed activities, attendance (the program was designed postulating the effective presence of students) – minimum attendance of 50% of classes, punctuality, as well as behavior students' overall view (aspects such as evidenced interest, pertinence/objectivity of interventions and civility will be some of the points appreciated). The global weighting of these factors can additionally represent, in the evaluation as a whole, one value.
