Learning outcomes 1. To develop a comprehensive vision of human development throughout the life cycle.
2. To characterize the main perspectives of developmental psychology in adulthood and old age.
3. To discuss the principles and implications of the developmental perspective throughout the life cycle.
4. To characterize the research methods used for the study of adulthood and aging development.
5. To analyze the interaction between relational and contextual factors and adulthood and aging development.
6. To describe psychological development during adulthood and old age from different theoretical approaches.
7. To discuss the developmental implications of the aging population.
8. To discuss and contextualize the issue of promoting active aging.
Syllabus 1. Study of development along the life cycle: perspectives and models; investigation; perspective of lifespan development.
2. Cognitive development in adulthood and old age: perspectives and models of cognitive development of the adult and the elderly; wisdom and post formal thinking; moral development.
3. Psychosocial development in adulthood and old age: perspectives and models; adulthood and old age: stability or change? Developmental tasks of adulthood and old age.
4. Relational Contexts of adulthood and aging development: family and intimate relationships in adulthood and old age; relationships and support networks in adulthood and old age.
5. Active Aging: contextualization and characterization; social and psychological implications of the increased longevity; intergenerationality and development across life span; psychology in the promotion of development in old age.
