Learning outcomes The main goals of this course unit are to disseminate applications of lasers in medicine and the basic concepts of physical optics that allow their understanding.
At the end of this course, the student should be able to identify and characterize several types of laser systems (and associated optics) for therapeutic applications. The student should be able to understand the biophysical mechanisms of interaction of laser light with biological tissues. The student should also be aware of the state of the art laser applications in medicine.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Regarding the assessment of knowledge, the student must:
- Carry out two intermediate frequencies (F)
- Perform all laboratory activities (AL)
- Attend all proposed seminars
- Attend TE classes >= 50%
- Attend PL classes >= 85%

The final CEA grade will be calculated using the following formula:
CEA = 0.7 F + 0.30 AL
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
