Learning outcomes The course is part of the 3rd cycle studies in Architecture and intends to transmit advanced knowledge in the field of Theory and History of Architecture and Heritage as a complement to research leading to the development of doctoral theses. The general objective of this course is to deepen the knowledge in the context of theory and practice applied to the characterization of buildings in a multidisciplinary context. The following competencies will be developed on this
curricular unit:
a) Dominion over the state of the art research within the theory and history of architecture and heritage;
b) Understanding and validation of multidisciplinarity in research in Architecture;
c) Recognition and understanding of the importance of context when there is intervention in historic and/or heritage buildings;
d) Mastery of tools and fundamentals of Theory and History of Architecture and Heritage applied to the analysis of historic buildings and/or heritage and its specific components
Syllabus 1. Research on historical buildings and/or heritage in a multidisciplinary perspective based on Theory and History of Architecture and Heritage;
2. Research resources and systematization;
3. Historic buildings and Architectural Heritage;
4. Historic buildings - the building and its elements.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria This unit has a duration of 1 academic semester, involving 21h of contact in classes. The approval of this course unit gives the student 7,5ECTS credits. The contact hours are organized as follows: 3h of theoretical classes(T), with exposure of the syllabus; 6h of theoretical-practical classes (TP) and 9h of seminar (S), with exposure of the syllabus and were the concepts and ideas underlying the syllabus contents are discussed; 3h of tutorial mode (OT), where the student develop a work based on the program independent of UC. The student must perform a work of theoretical research in relation to the overall theme of the doctorate. Education involves discussion sessions and tutorials being the assessment made by the completion of one or more assignments classified in function of its quality (evaluated by writing a scientific paper).
