Learning outcomes |
Introduction and development of the fundamental concepts of tribology. 1) Know the history and economic implications of the problems associated with tribology 2) Know the different types of lubricants and the way to improve their properties 3) Know how to characterize the state of surfaces and the different types of wear 4) Characterize the difference between the different types of lubrication and the form of implementation 5) Be able to use physical-mathematical models to model different lubrication regimes 6) Know the tribologic effects on electrical systems 7) Be aware of the latest advances of tribology.

1. Introduction. Historical perspective. Nature of surfaces. Friction and wear. Lubrication Regimes: Hydrodynamics, Hydrostatic, Hydrodynamic, Mixed and Contact. 2. Geometry and texture of surfaces. Surface profile. Classic roughness parameters. Measurement devices. 3. Lubricants. Solid lubricants. Lubricating oils and pasta. Viscosity coefficient. Vegetable, mineral and synthetic oils. Normalization. 4. Lubrication Theory. Stokes equations. Petrov law for the coefficient of friction. Sommerfeld number. Adimensional film parameter. Applications. 5. Chumaceiras. Description and classification. Friction, lubricating and rolling film. Selection and calculation of chumaceiras. 6. Experimental Demonstration Works: Rugosimeter and Michel Patin. 7. Electrical effects in tribology 8. Nano-Tribology and Green Tribology.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
UC develops in theoretical and theoretical-practical classes. In theoretical classes the different topics of the subject with film support are exposed. In theoretical-practical classes are presented exercises and examples of application and laboratory demonstrations are made. The evaluation is performed through 1 test in 2 modules (T+TP), and also by elaborating an article on a tribology topic.
