This Course Unit intends to provide students with the knowledge required for hydrologic design, in the areas of surface water, stormwater urban drainage and water management. It is intended that students develop skills of independent learning and critical thinking, analysis and synthesis, group work, focusing on the practical application of theoretical knowledge to solve problems. At the end of the course the student should be able to: (a) Have knowledge and understanding of the concepts related with the hydrological phenomena and management of water resources (b) Characterise watersheds and their water availability (c) Characterise and evaluate floods, including estimation of intense rainfall and flood peak discharges and respective hydrographs. (d) Design stormwater urban drainage systems.
