Learning outcomes This course aims to enable students to the articulation between concepts, theories and practices in the analysis and research in the field of political science, namely:

1. Acknowledge operational concepts, empirical evidence, arguments/hypotheses and research and analysis methodologies;
2. Analyzing the theoretical-methodological pluralism and its adequacy;
3. Applying methods of political analysis: access to information, qualitative and quantitative approaches;
4. Understanding research approaches and their relationship to political phenomena;
5. Questioning the conceptualization, operationalization and quality of research and political analysis;
6. Equating political analysis strategies applied to new areas in which politics manifests itself.
Syllabus PART 1. FROM CONCEPTUALIZATION TO THEORY
1.1. The role of political analysis in the context of political science
1.2. Conceptualization and models of analysis (scientific thinking, inferences and relationships)
1.3. State of the art and problematization of the science of politics

PART 2. FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE
2.1. From political commentary to scientific knowledge
2.2. The pluralism of research methodologies and political analysis strategies
2.3. Paradigms and models of political analysis

PART 3. POLITICAL ANALYSIS METHODOLOGIES
3.1. The possibility of qualitative approaches
3.2. Anchoring in quantitative borders - statistical correlations, polls, SPSS, Delphi
3.3. Analysis of practical cases, empirical demonstration and thematic workshops

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The teaching methodologies applied are intended to systematize and consolidate the defined outcomes, contributing to the acquisition and sharing of knowledge - through expository and participatory classes (10%), recommended readings and oral presentations of scientific papers, presented in group and a written paper (40%) - as well as for the practical and student assessment (workshops), which will culminate in a written assessment test (50%).

Continuous assessment (normal):
Participation and demonstration of recommended readings: 10%
Group presentation: 40%
Written assessment: 50%

Final assessment (working-students):
Final exam: 100%
