Learning outcomes With this course we intend to discuss the central role played by school education within contemporary societies and the guidelines of current educational policies in the context of globalization, transnationalization and territorialization, analysying the Portuguese educational reality considering these trends. At the end of this curricular unit, the student must be able to: • Understand the current educational policies at the light of the contexts of globalization, transnationalization and policies of territorial / local level; • Interpret the legal framework that regulates the current Portuguese educational system; • Analyze relevant research in the field of Educational Policies and Organization of Education; • Express ideas in a reasoned manner, drawing on oral and written communication; • Develop collaborative skills; • Assume the responsibility for its learning.
Syllabus 1.Introductory Issues: Education and Society. The central role played by school education in contemporary societies. The future of schools as a public good. 2. The concept of Educational Policy, meaning, and framing; Horizon of current educational policies: Globalization and Transnationalization of Education; European Policy and Global Education: Guidelines and actors; 3. Organization and structure of the current Portuguese educational system.The autonomy of schools, the organization and curriculum management; The educational evaluation; The inclusive school; educational support and differentiation; Education and training for youth and adults; The status of the teaching profession and teacher professionalism; the educative system evaluation.
