This curricular unit is structured in 6 central topics. At the end of the Curricular Unit, students are expected to be able to:
1. Analyze and understand the process of establishment and consolidation of democracies 2. Interpret the historical contexts for the study and comparison of democratic regimes and the various existing models 3. Analyze the expansion of democracy and the determining elements and variables that mark a period of crisis for democracies 4. Understand the comparative tables and the various rankings used to measure the quality of democracy 5. Understand and analyze state and societal action around responses to the crisis of democracies 6. Address the policies, behaviors, values ??and attitudes adopted to regenerate contemporary democracy.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Classes follow a theoretical-practical model, with the first part of the class being reserved for the expository aspect of the main concepts, theories and programmatic formulations of the contents taught. The second part of the class corresponds to a practical analysis of the various models of democracy, their practical applicability, the respective comparison and measurement, as well as the way to outline lines of action in response to the crisis of democracy. Test (19th May 2025) - 50%. Presentation in class 1 - 25% - 14th April 2025. Class presentation 2 - 25% - 2nd June 2025.
Student workers: Test - (19th May 2025) - 50%. Analysis and discussion of a report on the quality of democracy - 50% (due on 2nd June 2025).
