Year 3
Semester S1
ECTS Credits 6
Workload T(30H)/TP(30H)
Scientific area Mechanics and Thermodynamics
Entry requirements Knowledge of Applied Mechanics and Mechanics of Solids.
Learning outcomes Develop the ability to analyse a specific problem, in a simple and logical way, in order to be able to understand and develop capabilities in mechanical design.
Analyse, identify and calculate the loads on mechanical structures, or mechanical components, in equilibrium under external loads.
Understand the deformation mechanisms of structural components subjected to tensile, bending and torsion, acting individually or jointly.
Acquire ability to design mechanical components.
Syllabus - Introduction to continuum mechanics applied to solids
- Stability of Columns
- Energy Methods
- Stress Concentration
- Viscoelastic and viscoplastic behaviour of materials
Main Bibliography - Mecânica dos Materiais; Ferdinand P. Beer, E. Russell Johnston and John T. Dewolf; 2003; Mcgraw-Hill (English version).
- Notes supplied by the teacher.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The evaluation criteria include 2 frequencies (F), whose final grade is the arithmetic average of the grades obtained in each one.
Approval with a grade equal to or greater than 9.5 values.
