Learning outcomes |
This course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge about the main thermodynamic cycles used in engineering. Steam power cycles and gas turbine cycles will be covered, with an emphasis on their efficiency and practical applications. Students will also study simple refrigeration cycles, which are essential for refrigeration systems. The unit also includes the study of perfect gas mixtures and the basic principles of psychrometry, with application in air conditioning systems. The concepts of combustion and its energy and environmental implications will be introduced. The aim is to develop the ability to critically and quantitatively analyze different thermal systems. By the end, students should be able to interpret and evaluate the performance of real thermodynamic cycles. The approach combines theory, practical examples, and applied exercises.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Teaching/learning and exams: CF=0.85*TE|EX+0.15*TEL [CF – Final grade; TE - Test grade; EX – Exam grade; TEL – Laboratory work grade ] No consultation during tests/exams. A form will be provided for use during tests/exams. Attendance requires attendance at 2/3 of the theoretical-practical classes (10 classes). Attendance requires a minimum grade of 9.5 in the experimental laboratory work. In teaching/learning and exams, the minimum passing grade is 9.5 in the test or exam. Grades above 16 require an oral exam. Test date: December 16, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
