Learning outcomes At the end of the curricular unit, the student should be able to:
1 - Understand and apply statistical methods in the analysis of the different types of data.
2 - Use the program SPSS in the statistical analysis of data.
3 - Produce and organize the results of a statistical analysis of data.
4 - Analyze and criticize studies and/ or articles in the textile engineering area that satisfy the learning outcomes.
5- Identify the probabilistic models, their properties, and their applications to textile engineering.
Syllabus Chapter I) Descriptive Statistics
-Population/sample;
-Variable Classification and measure scales.
-Creation of databases in SPSS;
- Frequency tables of unidimensional/ bidimensional variables;
-Graphic representations;
- Measures of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, and kurtosis;
Chapter II) Correlation and Simple Linear Regression
- Pearson Correlation coefficient;
-Scatter Plot;
-Linear Regression;
Chapter III) Probabilities theory;
--random experiments, sample spaces, events;
--Axiomatic definition of Probability and respective properties;
--conditional probability;
-Random variables (discrete/continuous);
- distribution function and probability function (probability density function);
-Expected value and variance of a random variable;
-Binomial distribution;
-Poisson distribution;
-Normal distribution.
