Learning outcomes |
1-Describe the various structural models and relate them to the physical properties of the fibers. 2-Analyze the structure of the main natural and non-natural fibers. 3-Characterize the physical and physicochemical properties of the fibers. 4-Evaluate the physical properties of fibers: enunciate principles and carry out experimental methods of analysis, compare results of various fibers. At the end of this unit, the student should be able to: 1- Relate the structure with the physical properties and with the technological processes of production and transformation. 2-Explain the physical meaning of the quantities used to characterize the fibers. 3-Perform experimental techniques and analyze the results obtained.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The curricular unit works with theoretical and practical-laboratory classes.
The teacher, in theoretical classes, explains the contents of the curricular unit and presents examples and real facts for discussion, encouraging reflection. The practical-laboratory classes will take place in the Fiber Physical Testing Laboratory and in the Optics Center, where the student will operate different equipment and carry out various experimental work within materials characterization.
Students must prepare, at the end of each experimental work, a written report where they must apply the knowledge acquired and scientifically discuss the results.
The assessment of the curricular unit comprises a theoretical component (written test) weighted at 60% and a practical component (average of practical-laboratory and research work) weighted at 40%, regardless of the assessment period (frequency, normal exam or appeal exam).
