Learning outcomes The main goal of this curricular unit is to develop abilities in the students that allow them to prepare a "state of the art" on a topic of their choice and make its presentation in an academic context.

At the end of this course unit, students should:
- Be able to use bibliographic sources of obtain information about the latest development on a particular topic.
- Know how to use available information to prepare a presentation about a specific topic, either to the general public or to a specialized audience in the topic.
- Understand the importance of "be able to transmit information".
Syllabus Methodology to be applied in the gathering of information about recent scientific research.
Correlation and interpretation of experimental data. Using programs for processing and presentation of experimental results.
Preparation of formal and technical reports.
Individual development of a presentation in the form of panel or monograph with individual search and retrieval of information, taking into account the points raised in self-study.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Teaching activities are divided into theoretical and theoretical-practical classes, taught in classrooms equipped with computers and multimedia facilities. Part of the lectures may be devoted to Seminars.
The teaching-learning activities are mostly self-learning, since the theme to be developed by each student is different. In these sessions, the teacher guides the students in researching the relevant information to the issue of interest.
Other classes are of explanatory nature, and information about rules for the oral presentations, to all kinds of audience, is provided to the students. The general rules for the preparation of reports and monographs is also presented.
All the classes are interactive, and students are constantly invited to give their opinion about the subject being presented and about the performance of their colleagues.

Evaluation consists on the presentation (as monography or poster) and discussion of the scientific subject of recent research presented.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
