Entry requirements Success in this discipline implies that the student has been previously approved in other subjects that deal with Differential and Integral Calculus, Physics (Mechanics and Basic Thermodynamics).
Learning outcomes Development and application of the fundamental concepts about the statics, dynamics and kinematics of fluids in an engineering perspective..
Syllabus 1. Introduction to fluid mechanics. 2. Fundamental concepts: properties of fluids; trajectory of particles; current and emission lines; System and volume of control; Perfect and viscous fluid. 3. Hydrostatics: Fundamental Law; absolute and relative pressure; Barometers and manometers; Archimedes principle; Forces on immersed surfaces; Pressure center. 4. Fluid Kinematics: Lagrangian and Eulerian description; Local and convective acceleration; Stationary flow; Irrotational movement of a fluid. 5. Fluid dynamics: tension and deformation; laminar and turbulent flow; conservation laws in the integral form; Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. 6. Dimensional analysis and similarity: physical models; Buckingham theorem; nondimensional groups; Reynolds Number. 7. Applications: Viscous and Inviscid Flow; Bernoulli's equation; load losses in pipes; Darcy's Law; Moddy diagram. 8. Boundary layer theory. Theory and applications.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria U. C.'s teaching component is based on theoretical, theoretical-Practical and laboratory classes in a face-to-face system. The assessment of knowledge of the discipline is based on the conduction of two face-to-face assessment tests, also on a test on the reports of laboratory experiences, as well as the individual work developed by the student.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
