Learning outcomes 1- Research processes and methodical development & analysis for the creation of a fashion design project in relation
to garment design.
2- Encourage students to gain skills and capacities needed for conducting professional level of design. investigation,
in an approximation to the rhythm and work precision required outside the academic network.
3- To be able to design garments and oversee their production together with visual and verbal/written narratives that
are faithful to the vision of the projects, as well as recognizing the importance of aesthetic and functional components
including visual communication formats for the market/industry.
4 - Recognize the fashion design as a global activity.
5 - Be able to use and apply research and project methodologies to fashion design, acquiring. personal skills and
capacities of multidisciplinary scope.
6. Apply a User-Centered-Design methodology in partnership with the CU Ergonomics and Fashion Design (Project II).
Syllabus 1. Exploration: Position in job market, set up professional goals/Semantics as aesthetic & functional components of
design/Concept, narrative design/Rhythm & scale of activity in the field.
2. Immersion:Briefing: company, mission, materials, milestones, collaborations/UCD research in partnership with the
CU Ergonomics and Fashion Design (Project II)/Competition analysis/Context, environment, concept, materials &
color/Market trends x consumer sentiment/Basic silhouettes of 15 outfits, patterns, narrative, pre-vision of
project/Project pitch; Collection.
3. Design:Tech. package for capsule collection, drawings & technical vector representation. Preparation for
Confection/First structural prototype of final outfit/Elevator pitch; consumer/user centered research & proposition
value in market.
4. R&D:Evaluation of process, modifications & work plan/Review definition of product proposition x market
needs/Confection; production of final piece/prototype/Presentation deck; product pitch

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Develop skills necessary for a professional design to work in collaboration with the company/industry according to a
briefing. Multimedia content such as online and face-to-face classes, practical and theoretical exercises develop
essential skills for fashion designers. Projects accompanied individually and students are faced with challenges in
order to develop their own and unique approach. In laboratory activities, projects are kept in tune with the multiplicity
of communication formats from supply chain to demand chain (production of maquetes, technical drawings,
development of pitches and slides for professional presentations). Bases for molds, machinery specialized in assisting
students in the confection of their projects.
Evaluation: 100% periodic presentations [20% + 80% (final
exam)] No classes/presentations grade reduction by up to 20% EXAM: Admission: min. 6; Dispense: min. 10
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
