7. Recognize the role of Portugal in cordel literature.
8. Distinguish the detective novel from another kind of novel.
9. To evaluate the role of the so-called margin literatures
Syllabus 1. Literary canon and peripheries: texts and intertexts
2. Some milestones in the appreciation of traditional oral literature.
3. Simple and complex forms of oral literature: typological distinction, function and most common structures
4. Genres of literature with the margin of written record: distinction and typological characterization. Highlight for some genres on their way to canon
4.1. The folktale and the children's literary tale
4.2. Crime fiction novel
4.3. Science fiction
5. The Paracosm
6. Urban art
