Learning outcomes In this Curricular Unit, the student must: a) acquire fundamental notions of language, concepts and styles of cinematographic editing; b) apply their creative and narrative potential and conceptually articulate the editing with the other stages of the cinematographic process; c) autonomously use professional non-linear editing software in its multiple capabilities, integrating them into post-production workflows.
Syllabus 1. Definition of editing and editor function. 2. Brief history of assembly. Pioneers. Classicism. The invisibility of the assembly. The new cinema and the rupture with the predominance of continuity. The multiplicity of contemporary narrative forms. 3. Introduction to editing tools. DaVinci Resolve. Adobe Premiere Pro. Final Cut Pro. Avid media Composer. 4. The function of annotation in assembly. 5. Workflow and Workspace. Organization of files, projects and timelines. Import.Synchronism.Export. 6. Assembly grammar. Scene and sequence. Raccord. Point of view. Rules of 180º and 30º. Plan scale. Rhythm. Shot and scene time. Field/reverse shot. Parallel and alternate mounting. Edit with dialogue, voice over and music. Ellipse.Flashback and Flashforward. Cutting plan. Jump-cut. J and L cuts. 7. Assembly practice. Script and assembly. Character and point of view. Analysis of rough, rough cut, first cut, fine cut and final cut. Edit shorts. The collaborative work process.
