Learning outcomes |
The Curricular Unit aims to develop filmmaking skills, both through analysis and the creation of scenes and/or film sequences, to allow students developing a unique authorial vision. Throughout the semester, students will develop skills to envision the movie before shooting, through the practice of planning and conceptualizing scenes and sequences, both by breaking down the scene and long takes, using the camera as a narrator. At the end of the semester, students must fullfil the following learning outcomes: 1. Distinguish the various functions of the film crew, particularly the ones in the directing area; 2. Master the specifics of each filme production phase, starting at the idea until the final movie; 3. Understand and use the rules of the film language; 4. Envisioning and planing movie scenes; 5. Create the various directing documents to prepare the shooting; 6. Explore and imagine creative approaches to the screenplay.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
This CU entails a strong laboratory component for the discussion of ideas and the development of practical work, duly monitored by the professor. Students start with simpler and shorter projects and progress to more complex projects, in an iterative process of learning through practice and experimentation. It also comprises a combination of expository/reflective methods, accompanied by previewing movie scenes that exemplify the contents addressed. Assessment is continuous and the class does not include a final exam. Attendance in 85% of classes is required. Students with special statuses, namely workers proven unable to attend classes, must contact the professor by September 27th, in order to agree on the assessment process. Presentations of work in class are mandatory.
