Learning outcomes At the end of this course, students should be able to:
a) identify and master conceptually the main theories of modern cinema;
b) critically and reflexively establish the relationship between cinematic theory and practice;
c) understand the evolution of the aesthetic and technological paradigms in the history of cinema theories.
Syllabus 1. From Pre-Cinema to Post-Cinemas.
1.1. Benjamin and technical reproducibility.
1.2. Jenkins and the digital transformation.
2. Post-Cinemas. Andre´ Parente: the three dimensions of Cinema Form (Architecture, Technology and Discourse).
3. Thinking-Making cinema: dialogues between film theory and practice.
4. Digital Cinema. Lev Manovich: from kino-eye to kino-brush.
5. Transmedialities and intertextualities.
5.1. Music videos: narrativity, performance and cinema of attractions.
5.2. Video games: narrativity, interactivity and performance; mise-en-sce`ne and editing.
6. Expanded Cinema - Synesthesia, Syncretism and Metamorphosis; Experience, Kinesis and Synergy.
7. Experimental Cinema and lines of continuity with video art.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Reading and analysis of texts of reference.
Discussion in the class of the main issues around modern cinema and film/screen culture. These discussions should also encompass the history of ideas when it comes to the moving image Viewing and analysis of excerpts from cinematographic, audiovisual and digital works. Development of practical work based on theoretical approaches.
