Knowledge: 1. To integrate concepts regarding physiology and the homeostatic functioning of systems and transpose them to genetic, biochemical, molecular, cellular, structural, and functional pathological mechanisms underlying human diseases. 2. To identify epidemiological factors of disease. 3. To identify common and distinctive features of diseases. 4. To infer models, methodologies, and technologies used in scientific and therapeutic research on diseases. 5. To develop the ability to correlate scientific and translational information in pathophysiology, focusing on clinical application. Soft skills: 1. To develop critical thinking and perform logical-deductive reasoning in problem-solving. 2. To develop research skills. 3. To acquire oral and written communication skills. 4. To be able to translate fundamental science to biomedical and clinical applications. 5. To develop team cooperation skills.

Syllabus |
Theoretical-Practical (TP) The main aim is to integrate the contents previously learned in other UC about the normal functioning of systems and transpose them to the genetic, biochemical, molecular, cellular, structural, and functional mechanisms of diseases, as well as translate them into biomedical and clinical applications, namely in the: - cardiovascular system - endocrine system - nervous system - immune system Pathophysiological processes of aging. Laboratory practices (PL) - In vitro and in vitro experimental models of diseases. - Experimental and analytical methodologies used in the study of disease mechanisms.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The course unit (UC) includes theoretical-practical classes (TP) and laboratory practices (PL, with 2 groups simultaneously). In the TP classes, knowledge will be discussed in an integrated and interactive way. In the PL classes, students will have the opportunity to test experimental techniques in the area of pathophysiology and disease mechanisms. Laboratory work is carried out in groups, allowing for individual execution. The assessment consists of written exams covering the TP and PL programs (65%, average of 2 tests), practical work presentations (15%), and individual attitudes (20%). A grade of 9.5 or higher in all components is required for approval. Minimum attendance is 80% in TP classes and 100% in PL classes. The minimum grade for admission to the exam is 6. The final exam grade includes the result of the written exam (65%) and the continuous assessment grades obtained during the teaching-learning period.
