Learning outcomes •Acquire knowledge of the most important themes of Portuguese Culture and its formation in the context of globalization;
•Elaborate practical work on an author and a relevant work of Portuguese Culture;
•Demonstrate oral presentation skills in the presentation;
•Acquire critical capability.
Syllabus 1) The issues of Historiography, especially the usefulness of History and the concepts of Culture and Civilization.
2) The Portuguese Identity: unity and diversity.
3) The first spaces and manifestations of Portuguese literate and artistic culture.
4) Dimensions of the Renaissance: Humanism and Erasmism in Portugal; the Discoveries and Renaissance Culture; Travel Literature; Gil Vicente and Luís
de Camões.
5) The Reform Movement, the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation in Portugal.
6) D. Sebastião and Sebastianism.
7) Father António Vieira and the “Fifth Empire”.
8) Pombalism, Enlightenment and Encyclopedism.
9) Liberalism and Romanticism in Portugal.
10) The new proposals of the Generation of 70.
11) Republicanism.
12) Modernism and other avant-gardes.
13) The culture of the "politics of the spirit" of the Estado Novo.
14) The culture of opposition.
15) Globalization and the Portuguese economy, society and culture.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Teaching methods: lectures; research works; oral and written reflections, based on texts provided or indicated by the teacher about the programmatic topics
covered; use of audiovisual resources; using the Moodle platform.

The evaluation of the History of Portuguese Culture course will be processed as follows:
1. The minimum passing grade is ten points (9.5 points).

2. In the Teaching-Learning assessment, the 20 final values will be distributed as follows:

50% - Frequency.

40% - Written work individually or in pairs and respective presentation (30% + 10%).

10% - Attendance and critical participation in classes (5% + 5%).

Minimum attendance: 50% of classes.

3. Minimum score for access to the Final Exam: 6 points.

4. Special assessment (worker-student status): in accordance with current legislation.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
